More about "the edge of the city" series

London is a fantastic part of the world to walk about in. Some paths can lead you into  a very different world very suddenly. The Thames was not far away from where I lived and the walk up to Canary wharf was a favourite past time of mine during the 23 years I lived there. Canary Wharf is a world entirely of its own. It juts out, a financial oasis surrounded by towing blocks of flats. The feelings of this highly connected environment led me to produce a number of works inspired by it. Initially I made several more descriptive pieces but very quickly started to think more about the feeling of the place rather than its obvious architectural look. The part of London is exciting because it sits along the river Thames as you head out of the city of London to the east. A financial district with shopping centres and housing. Directly opposite on the other side of the river is the Greenwich Maritime Museum and Observatory. You can in fact walk from The Isle of Dogs through an underground walkway that goes below the river to Greenwich.
