More about the "Mythical beings" series
Rose, wrap and flap. Mixed media sculptures made during my 3rd year at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen in Scotland (1998). Are probably the first manifestation of the Mythical being series which I later worked on in about 2017. These thee creatures as I called them then started out as life-size sculptures that I made from moulds of my own body. Highly painted objects that reflected my interest in the relationship between form and image. The image below is a rendition of Rose, Wrap and Flap, as I had started to call them, that I made in about 2007 using the original photographs I took of the sculptures. Wrap, I sold to a friend few a few hundred quid. Rose, I gave to the owner of the Silver Darling returant in Aberdeen and Wrap, landed up in a skip after I grew tired of carrying it around.
The Mythical beings series grew out of the "Gatherings" series while I was in the early stages of putting that series together. The series started out as an interest in the people that gathered in various locations in London UK but I became aware that the environments and the feeling that these locations generate impacted on the identity of the individuals that gathered there. That the places a person interacts with and their experience of the world around them become a part of an individuals cumulative identity. That this could be expressed as elements taken from these environments as part of the physical make up of the body.
